Urban League of the Upstate

// problem

The site had drifted out of date and become risky to change. Custom code layered on top of a page-builder theme made routine maintenance a hazard, navigation hid everything behind a hamburger menu instead of clear top-level sections, and much of the content had gone stale. Around fifty pages needed rethinking rather than restyling. Underneath all of it sat a longer-running problem: for more than a decade the same feedback kept coming back, that the site did not communicate what the organization actually does. The work had become visual, spanning workforce development programs, a film symposium, and a creative studio initiative, while the site stayed text-heavy and several active programs had no presence on it at all.

// solution

Rebuilt on WordPress with Elementor Pro so staff can edit pages without touching code or risking the theme. Roughly fifty pages were redesigned, migrated, and restructured, with clear top-level navigation replacing the hamburger menu. The build covers programs and services, an events calendar, donations, newsletter signup, contact forms, a staff and board directory, and a media and news section, alongside security hardening and performance work. The site was restructured to show the work rather than describe it: each workforce development initiative got its own page, the blog became a resource center so interviews, podcasts, and video sit alongside written articles, and film programming is embedded directly into the relevant pages. Handover included hands-on CMS training and written documentation, so the team could run it without coming back to a developer for routine changes.
